First I thought it's a normal story  buy, To be my surprise it's something different read than usual. After reading complete I understood why the cover shows a dog and a man. Specifically a police dog.

Talking about character they are well developed and described. I loved all  the characters is story is little bit slow. The language is easy and lucid.

What I feel is the philosophy part is explained so well. But, book length is too much. Author could have cut down some part of it.

In a nutshell if you something different story with philosophy it's good for you
